Nellie's School of Clean: The Kitchen Tool You Didn't Know You Needed

Posted on

Hi, I’m Rose! I’m 20, recently moved out for university, and currently working as a summer intern at Nellie’s. One thing I definitely underestimated before moving out was how quickly dirty things pile up.

I used to think doing dishes was one of those chores that would always somehow stay under control. But once you’re living on your own, the sink is suddenly piled with dishes, your sponge starts looking questionable after a couple uses, and your kitchen counter always feels messy.

So today we’re talking about one kitchen product I’ve actually found surprisingly useful lately: the Nellie’s Dish Stick. Welcome back to Nellie’s School of Clean.

Why Is Cleaning the Kitchen So Annoying?

I think part of it is because kitchen cleaning usually involves way too many separate cleaning tools

You need a sponge, dish soap, something to scrub with, and the sink area still ends up wet and cluttered no matter what you do.

And realistically, when cleaning feels inconvenient, it’s way easier to procrastinate.

One thing I’ve learned since moving out is that the easier something is to clean, the more likely I actually am to keep my apartment clean consistently.

What Actually Is the Dish Stick?

The Nellie’s Dish Stick combines a dish brush and dish soap into one tool.

The soap is built directly into the handle, so instead of constantly grabbing a dish soap bottle while cleaning, you can dispense soap and scrub as you wash. You just twist the bottom when you need more, and refill with new Dish Stick refills when you run out.

I love the Dish Stick because it keeps the area around my sink decluttered and clean, especially in my small kitchen where counter space disappears very quickly.

It also feels more hygienic than letting a sponge sit wet beside the sink all day.

It’s Not Just for Dishes!

One thing I didn’t expect is how many things around the apartment I’ve started using it for.

Some things it works really well for:

  • Cleaning white sneakers
  • Scrubbing makeup stains out of sinks
  • Washing reusable water bottles
  • Cleaning meal prep containers
  • Scrubbing stovetops
  • Cleaning bathroom counters
  • Washing coffee mugs that get stained inside
  • Cleaning small kitchen spills quickly
  • Scrubbing around sink edges and faucets

I especially like using it for shoes because the brush makes it easy to scrub without completely soaking the shoe. Just look at this before and after of my sneakers using Nellie's Dish Stick with a touch of Oxygen Brightener!

Why I Think Students Would Actually Like This (Like me!)

Living on your own really makes you appreciate products that make cleaning feel faster and less overwhelming.

The Dish Stick is one of those things that’s simple, compact, and easy to grab, which honestly makes a bigger difference than people think when you’re busy with school, work, or trying to survive exam season and just want to get the dishes done. As well, refillable soap cuts down on constantly buying new plastic dish soap bottles.

Moving out definitely teaches you that keeping your kitchen clean isn’t really about being perfect. It’s more about finding systems and products that make cleaning feel manageable enough to stay consistent with it.
