Hi, I’m Rose! I’m 20, recently moved out for university, and currently working as a summer intern at Nellie’s. One thing I’ve realized since moving out is that stains somehow appear on clothes out of nowhere – but how do I get rid of them?
As a somewhat clumsy person, I’m always finding random marks on my clothes that I didn’t even realize transferred. Coffee drips, makeup stains, deodorant marks, food spills… somehow they always show up at the worst possible time too.
And when you’re living away from home, you quickly realize that keeping clothes looking nice actually takes a little more effort than just throwing everything into the wash.
So today we’re talking about one of the easiest and most efficient stain-removal products I’ve started using lately: the Nellie’s WOW Stick. Welcome back to Nellie’s School of Clean.
Why Do Stains Feel Impossible to Remove?
A lot of stains actually aren’t that difficult to remove, they just sit for too long.
I used to think I had to do some complicated soaking routine with multiple products every time I stained something, so I’d procrastinate and end up leaving it until laundry day and hoping the washing machine (or mom) would solve the issue. Usually… it didn’t.
The biggest thing I’ve learned is that treating stains early makes a huge difference.
So, How Should You Actually Treat Stains?
One thing I didn’t realize before moving out is that different stains usually need different approaches.
For example, oil stains, makeup, and food stains tend to cling to fabric way more than something water-based would. And the longer they sit, the harder they usually become to remove.
A few general stain-removal tips that actually help:
• Treat stains as early as possible
• Avoid rubbing stains aggressively because it can push them deeper into fabric
• Use cold or lukewarm water for most stains
• Don’t put stained clothes into the dryer before checking if the stain is fully gone
One of the biggest mistakes people make is missing the pre-treatment stage, especially with oil-based stains.
That’s why products like stain remover sticks can be really useful, especially if you live in a dorm or apartment and want something quick and low-effort.
I’ve been using the Nellie’s WOW Stick because it’s simple to use, smells great and works well for everyday stains like coffee, makeup, deodorant marks, food spills, and even oil stains! You just wet the fabric and the WOW Stick, rub the stick directly onto the stain and gently agitate. Then throw the item into the machine and wash like normal. I also like that it doesn’t feel overly complicated or messy to use, which realistically makes me way more likely to actually treat stains instead of pretending they’ll magically disappear in the wash.
Stains honestly feel a lot more intimidating when you first move out because nobody really teaches you how to deal with them properly. But once you learn a few basics and find products that make the process easier, it becomes way less overwhelming. Treating stains early can genuinely save some of your favourite clothes. And if you’re still figuring it all out as you go, you’re definitely not the only one.
